Brrrr… Iowa winters are no joke! If you’re like us, you’re especially thankful for the everyday appliances that make all of our lives easier – a warm fireplace to stay cozy, a washer and dryer to keep our sweaters clean, warm, and dry, and countless kitchen appliances to warm up our bowls of soup.
But have you ever thought about what would happen if even one of those appliances stopped working? To help make sure your appliances stay in tip-top shape this winter, here are a few tips from our service techs to keep in mind:
- Regular Fireplace Maintenance
When your fireplace starts to show signs of disrepair, such as not lighting, low flames, clicking sounds, or funny smells, call Westside right away to schedule an at-home visit. These are tale-tell signs your fireplace isn’t working properly which can be avoided with regular, annual fireplace cleaning and service. Consider investing in our VIP package to receive $10 off fireplace cleaning services and other benefits!
- Clear Snow Off Your Dryer Vents
Though dryer vents let out heat while in use, it’s not enough to melt through deep snow. To avoid issues with your dryer, such as a hotter than normal exterior, your clothes taking longer to dry or not drying enough, or a burnt lingering smell in your laundry room, it’s crucial you clear any and all snow that is clogging your dryer vent. A good indicator of a properly working dryer is that it lets out a steady stream of steam from its vent. If this isn’t the case, your clogged dryer vent will pose a higher risk of catching fire.
- Keep your Kitchen Appliances Clean
Be sure to clean up any food that has spilled, leaked, or splattered in your microwave, on your stovetop, or in your oven. Neglecting these messes can lead to serious fire risks and will make it harder to cook or heat up your food. Use a damp cloth to wipe down any messes as they arise to avoid stubborn buildup over time.
