How to Troubleshoot Your Ice Maker

Ice makers are an appliance we often take for granted… until it stops working! Gone are the days of filling and spilling ice trays – instead, enjoy perfect cubes at any time. With the heat of summer, one of the last things you want is to find that your refrigerator’s ice maker is not working.

Luckily, there are some things you can do to troubleshoot why your ice maker isn’t making ice. Below is a checklist to run through when your ice maker isn’t working. And when in doubt, call Westside to help you out!

Troubleshooting Your Ice Maker Not Making Ice

  1. On/Off Switch
    Make sure the on/off switch is in the “on” position and hasn’t been turned off accidentally.
  2. Shut-off Arm
    Make sure the arm is in the down position and that nothing is blocking it.
  3. Water Filter
    Make sure the filter is not clogged. Check the owner’s manual for instructions to replace it.
  4. Ice Paddle
    Make sure the paddle is not stuck or blocked, preventing ice from being dispensed.
  5. Freezer Temperature
    Make sure the freezer temperature is at 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
  6. Water Line Behind Refrigerator
    Make sure the water line behind the refrigerator is not pinched or crimped.
  7. Water Valve
    Make sure the water supply valve is turned on. It can be located behind the refrigerator, under the sink, or in the basement below the refrigerator.
